I’ll never forget the first time I (properly) heard about SlideShare. It was April 2014 during Partner Day at HubSpot. I found myself in the “mindfield,” a content creation melting pot which included a panel of content experts from Hubspot including Brittany Leaning and Alec Biedrzycki.

One question that I had for the panel was, “Which social media platform would you recommend spending the most time and resources on?”

SlideShare was the answer I received. In the months that followed, we decided to take the insight we were handed and run with it. We began building out content on SlideShare and to our delight, it has been our most rewarding social media push to date.

Check out our SlideShare below that was featured on the SlideShare homepage and Business Insider.

Here are 5 best practices we follow to ensure that we get the most out of every single SlideShare we build for ourselves and for our clients.

Choose a Remarkable Topic

This first tip is a no brainer. Choose something remarkable to be the feature of your slideshare. If it seems dry before you even create the first slide you need to look for a new topic or at the very least, a new approach on the topic.

Use the Fame of Others

One of the best ways to make your SlideShare go viral is to use the fame of others in order to boost your content into the social media world. If the famed individual or company is trending from a current event, it’s even better.

EXAMPLE: Apple and the release of the iPhone 6. If you can include the news in your SlideShare it's more likely to go viral.

Provide Takeaways

Is your SlideShare teaching your target audience something? Creating content that provides the viewer with a takeaway will enhance the reach of your slideshare as they become more likely to share their findings with colleagues.

Education

Use High Quality Images

Use high quality images (either original or attributed) in your SlideShare. Something as simple as the quality of images can scare off any viewer looking for a credible piece of content. First impressions are everything.

Embrace White Space

Resist the urge to clutter your slides! White space create emphasis around important messaging. Embrace the need for it and remember that when white space surrounds something, it stands out.
