Beach Week 2014: Spreading Love, Cheer, Inbound Marketing, and Beer

As you may or may not know, we're a collaborative bunch at Stratus Interactive. We're constantly grouped together working through lead generation activities, inbound marketing campaigns, print and website designs, and whatever else comes our way. But with our feet constantly pressed against the pedal, sometimes we forget to smell the roses along the way.

That's why each summer, the team closes up headquarters in West Chester, PA and we get away as a group to focus on the Stratus side of our business relationships. And this year was no different. Reflecting as a group, we're able to analyze how the year's been so far, where we want to take the business, and how we can reach/accomplish our future goals. So we packed up the cars to the brim, and made our way to Sea Isle City, NJ for a week of employee bonding, agency strategy, and team-building activities designed to bring us closer as an agency.

Of course, that doesn't mean it was all fun and games. It was only mostly fun and games. We'd never leave our clients hanging, and we were able to spend our mornings gathered around a giant table (think King Arthur) to discuss ongoing progress and upcoming projects. But one such project was wearing down on us - our own website.

A large portion of our beach week was spent completely overhauling our current website. We love creating award-winning web and print designs for our clients. But, we often joke that Stratus is the red-headed stepchild--sometimes we're so busy working on client work, we forget to give ourselves a little love. Because of that, we wanted to take the time to build a website that truly reflects our agency's style, quirkiness, and commitment to quality work.

As a team, we discussed things we wanted to see, and things we wanted to avoid for the new site. Previously, the site was dark, small, and outdated. A major priority was opening the site up with bigger fonts, visuals, and a clean, white, foundation, while updating the content to match our current practices internally and externally.

Creating a visual portfolio for our work was another priority. We wanted to make sure our visitors were able to garner a full understanding for the breadth of our skills and expertise, and how that all funnels back to the client for increased lead conversions and repeatable ROI.

Another fun Beach Week tradition continued this year, as we were able to meet some of our favorite clients in Sea Isle! This year featured visits from our other favorite CEO, Alan Rihm of CoreDial and his wife, Jeanne! Getting out of an office environment and spending time with our clients gives us a chance to interact with colleagues outside of our usual element.

But our favorite things to take home with us from Beach Week are the memories we have with each other. Stratus Interactive is full of a wide variety of people and personalities, and shacking up in a house with your coworkers for a week isn't always easy. We're lucky enough to have a team that gets along so well in and out of work.

Whether we were working in morning meetings, lying out on the beach in the late afternoon, or singing songs on the back deck with our guitars after dinner, we were together. It's not everyday you find a team of diverse people who're able to work hard and play so effectively together. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
