Everyone uses Google. Or, anyone who *would* use Google, uses Google. It doesn’t matter how many celebrities say they use Bing, or how many ads Yahoo publishes about having more brand traffic—Google is the leading search engine, and for good reason.

[Google’s global search engine share is just under 70%](http://www.netmarketshare.com/search-engine-market-share.aspx?qprid=4&qpcustomd=0) with both Bing and Yahoo coming in at 6% each. So as a business, marketer, or content producer, knowing the ins an outs of the leading search engine platform can be a huge difference maker in getting your brand discovered.

## What it'd be like to find information on the internet without a search engine:

As you may know from your own usage, the further down the list your search results are, the less likely they are to gain traffic. After all, when was the last time you scrolled down to the bottom of Google and clicked the second page? Can you even remember? That’s because Google’s search algorithm, the calculation process that determines how your search results are served up, is so complex and intuitive, you’re more likely to change your search phrase than continue down a path of unrelated results.

That’s why it’s so important to keep up with the ever-changing Google algorithm so you’re aware how the search engine feeds you results. If you know the *why* behind what you’re searching for, it makes the *how* that much easier to decipher—which will help you with your SEO strategy.

Remember, SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of establishing a keyword strategy that helps Google index your site faster and more efficiently to ensure your content is getting found on a consistent basis by visitors who are actively searching for it. But don't worry about tracking down the specifics yourself. Moz put together this handy infographic detailing the changes Google's algorithm has undergone to this point in time, and it's well worth the look!
