Inbound marketing and lead generation is all about creating high quality and appealing content to bring leads and customers to you. One great way to generate new contacts and convert potential customers is through the use of call to action buttons.
Calls to action (CTAs) have the ability to be very effective in gaining a visitor’s attention if you follow some simple best practices. Hubspot, the leader in inbound marketing software, has developed some pointers for creating effective call to action buttons and we have added in some call to action examples to show you exactly what you should be doing.
Use Actionable Language
The copy of a CTA is one of the most important elements and the key thing to remember is to use action-oriented verbs. Using words like “download,” “discover,” and “learn” are going to compel people to click far more than generic verbs. A great call to action example with actionable language is the one our blog sidebar CTAs. This CTA uses words such as “discover” and “download” to compel visitors to click.
Show the Benefits
Making sure that the CTA clearly translates the benefits of the offer and the value proposition is key. If the visitor doesn’t see the value to them, they won’t click. This call to action example from CoreDial clearly shows what the visitor will get from taking advantage of the offer. They will build recurring revenue and double their customers. Clear value. Clearly compelling.

Create Urgency
The CoreDial call to action example above also engages in this best practice by saying that the results will be achieved in just 30 days. The HubSpot CTA below also creates urgency by including “Now” after “Get My Templates”. People are always busy online so why not show them that results and value can be obtained immediately?

Use a Contrasting Design (And Make it Look Clickable)
A great example of this is the call to action below for the B Lit flashlight multi-tool. The button instructing the visitor to take action is in bright red against a stark white background. It stands out clearly against the background and it is clear that you should click that button.

Don’t forget to A-B Test
A-B testing can be a great way to determine what really catches your audience’s attention. Is it the color? Is it the message? Is it the placement of the button? Try out two separate designs where one of these elements is changed and then see which one is clicked more. Check out call to action examples that were A-B tested on CoreDial’s website. Which would you click?

Overall, CTAs are a fantastic tool to generate leads and to ramp up your inbound marketing and lead conversion. They can be used in many stages of the sales funnel and they have the potential to really make a difference in gaining you more clients and more business. Following these key best practices and using these call to action examples as a reference, you can be making effective CTAs in no time!
