Make Dinner Reservations on Facebook

This week, Facebook launched a new feature on their mobile site and updated mobile app: integration with OpenTable, reports Mashable. The whole reservation process can take place within the mobile app without ever being directed away from Facebook to make the process the easiest it can be for users.

Gap to Take Over Tumblr….For a Day

On Monday, Gap asked Tumblr users to create and share an original piece of content telling them “What Blue Means to You”. Four winners will be chosen and used in mobile ads to be run on Tumblr on August 29th. The truly interesting part...Gap plans to buy every single mobile ad on Tumblr available that day to essentially take over Tumblr with their ads for a day. They will be the first company to ever do so.

Boy with Muscular Dystrophy Experiences Life through Photos

While this piece of news is not exactly recent, it was just too amazing not to share this week. A 12 year old boy with muscular dystrophy was given a rare chance to be “freed from his wheelchair by the magic of photography”, reports The Daily Mail. Stunning images of the boy doing daily things that most people take for granted, such as climbing stairs, playing basketball and riding a skateboard, were created using just household objects and colored sheets. No Photoshop here. One such image is below. The rest are worth a look too!

Drync Up

Behold: Drync, the Shazam for Wine. It is just as glorious as it sounds. An app that allows you to discover new wines and purchase the wine you are consuming simply by taking a picture of the label or by searching for the name. Amen.

Duck Dynasty Shatters Records and Commands Twitter

A little pop culture news for you…with some marketing thrown in of course. Wednesday night, Duck Dynasty had its Season 4 premier on A&E. This premiere drew 11.8 million viewers, making it the most successful reality TV premier in the history of cable. What’s more, Twitter was blowing up with six trending topics inspired by the premiere and with cast members live tweeting throughout the premier.

Design & Homelessness. A Winning Combination?

Artist Kenji Nakayama and Christopher Hope of Signs for the Homeless Project are working together in Boston and Cambridge, MA to help homeless people get noticed. By exchanging generic handwritten signs on cardboard or paper for colorful and eye-catching panhandling signs, the two are hoping to give the homeless some more power of recognition and help them to better their lives. Keep an eye out in your local city for these designed homeless signed, they are looking to expand the project.

National Airborne Day…and National Rum Day

We want to extend a special thank you to the nation’s airborne forces of the Armed forces in honor of National Airborne Day which is today. National Airborne Day was created in 2001 by George W. Bush. It’s also National Rum Day, National Tell a Joke Day and National Roller Coaster Day. Who knew there were all of these awesome holidays!? So today, thank an airborne serviceman or woman, have a Pina Colada, ride a rollercoaster and tell a joke…maybe not all at the same time.
