The week beginning July 7th was met with the bitter goodbye of the shore for many, marking the return to work after the holiday weekend. There were tears. There were headaches. There were sharknados wreaking havoc off the southern coast of California. There's a lot to take in this week, so we'll just get started.

Nike's Plea Towards Sustainability

Nike's flipping the script with its new design strategy. The sportswear giant recently launched a mobile app, MAKING, that prompts fashion designers to create sustainable designs within the industry. The app ranks 22 commonly used materials based on their environmental impact and rates the design (with users aiming to meet the highest score possible). A good fit for your next sneaker may mean a better fit for our environment. Will it work?

Preparing for the Takeover

Inc.com recently ran an interesting article about the importance of catering to change, as an influx of new Generation Y employees (those born between the early 1980's and 2000's) hit the workforce by storm. It's obviously controversial to lump people as many as 20 years apart into the same category of thought or entitlement, but it's an engaging article about the changes in the way we work individually and collaboratively. What do you think about no offices or strict hours?

Buying from the Bathroom

Should advertisers be concerned about how well they can sell to you from the bathroom? A recent survey discovered that online shoppers buy from their bathroom over 10% of the time. So if advertisers know how to get you from your sacred place, their work's cut out for the rest, isn't it? Learn more about bathroom buying over at Wired.

Surivival of the Wittest

The winner of this week, obviously, is also a bit bittersweet. Although many, many, lives were lost in this horrible natural contastrophy, we can learn from this and move on. For instance, we now know some of the best practices for dismantling sharks falling from the sky--the better options being pool sticks, chainsaws, and bar stools. We also know that Syfy has struck gold with this campy monster satire as Twitter was lit up last night by the movie's hashstag: #sharknado. Here's a visual summary in case you missed it.
